I provide counselling services to a wide range of folks out of the recognition that queer, kinky, polyamorous folks, as well as, others who defy societies norms to live and love on their own terms often fall through the cracks of traditional therapy.

Counselling is for you if:

  •  You’re interested in exploring various forms of ethical non-monogamy for the first time who need help with developing healthy communication strategies, boundary setting, and learning to identify and address feelings of jealousy, inadequacy, and insecurity.
  • You have practiced ethical non-monogamy for a long while but need some additional support.
  • You’re are new to kink and need some guidance about where to start, how to be safe, and how to handle negotiation and boundaries around consent
  • You have been kinky for years but need some where to feel seen and heard without being pathologized.
  • You are a queer individual who has felt alienated from families of origin and are working to find new ways to feel a sense of belonging and community.
  • Queer folks who are coming into and embracing their identity.
  • I also offer support in a wide range of issues including: accessing abortion, supporting addiction recovery, coping with anxiety, healthy sexuality, anti-oppressive practices, building communities, and advocacy.

My mission is to meet you where you’re at and to work alongside you on your path to personal growth and fulfillment.

Counselling

My approach to counselling draws from psychosocial support, ally ship, and empowerment/ strengths based interventions gained from my work as a clinical and community social worker, studies in human rights, feminism, and music therapy.

I draw from a wide range of therapeutic techniques including:

  • Trauma Informed Care
  • Strengths-Based Approach
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Creative Therapies
  • Harm Reduction
  • Inner Child Work
  • Queer Theory and Intersectional Feminism

What does Counselling look like?

  • Each session typically lasts 60 minutes.
  • Sessions can take place in person locally in Berlin or online.
  • If you are located in Berlin I offer creative and flexible ways to have sessions ranging from in my office, walking in local parks, to coaching over a coffee.
  • For those of you outside of Berlin I am able to accommodate requests from international time zones to find a time that is convenient for you, so no need to worry if you’re not in the Central European Time zone.

Counselling Offers:

  • Individual 1:1 Sessions
  • Structured Group Programs
  • Dyad, triad, and larger relationship coaching sessions.

I offer a free initial consultation for anyone interested in my offerings as I believe it is important for us to get to know one another before committing to working together.

This is a place for you if:

  • You have ever felt like you don’t fully fit into the status quo or society’s norms
  • You’ve worked with other therapists or gone to workshops on relationships, communication and related topics because you care about this area in your life but nothing has fit because the way you love is bigger than the box society is trying to fit you in!
  • You have been told that family can only be those created by blood or marriage but this doesn’t resonate with you.

Every story, human, and relationship is unique, and I work with you to create a customized program that fits your needs.  I offer counseling to individuals, groups, and family constellations of all sorts both in person and online.  Above all, I offer  a warm and empathetic heart and an open mind grounded in a professional and academic background in social work as well as lived experiences in sexuality- and gender-diverse communities.

Consulting

I offer workshops and talks to organizations and communities that are committed to the health and wellbeing of those involved. All workshops are tailored to fit the specific needs of those requesting any of my offerings.

Some of my offerings include

  • Healthy Relationships
  • Consent and Communication

  • Facilitated support groups as a safe outlet for employees to share their struggles, fears, and successes  while building a stronger sense of team and community with their peers.

Meet Charity

Charity Smith

I began building my own counselling practice after leaving behind a successful career as a clinical and community social worker to pursue further education.  My work and research is focused on serving the needs of women, children, LGBTQA2+, and Indigenous communities. From one-to-one sessions to group facilitation and public speaking, I always seek to build safe and nurturing spaces that empower individuals to grow.

I hold a Master of Arts (2018) Social Work as a Human Rights Profession from Alice Solomon Hochschule, Berlin Germany and a Bachelor of Social Work (2012) from the University of Windsor, Canada. My master thesis focused on The Lived Experinces of Polyamorous Families in Canada.

I am a registered social worker in the province of Ontario, Canada and is bound to the  Ethics and Professional Practice regulations set forth by the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

It is important to note that  the services I offer  focus on empowering individuals to overcome current struggles. While this often involves acknowledging the existence of historical trauma, it is not the same as as psychotherapy.
